Abi's Therapy Room · Nottingham & Online

A space to slow down, feel safe, and be understood.

I'm Abi Mohtady, a BACP-registered integrative counsellor working with adults and couples across Nottingham and online. Trust takes time, and being vulnerable is the bravest thing and I'm here to go at your pace.

What therapy can offer you

Therapy looks different for everyone. Here are a few moments clients often find along the way.

  1. Acknowledging how much you're carrying

Noticing how much you are carrying that is impacting you every day, and having a place to process things and begin to let them go.

  2. Realising that perfection is a myth

We are all imperfect, and being so does not equate to being unworthy or unlovable. Letting go of this belief will enable you to find yourself and begin to feel content with who you are.

  3. Having time just for you

Our lives can become busy, and it is sometimes hard to find time for yourself. Therapy offers an hour a week to bring anything and everything to process with somebody who really cares. It can become a safe haven whilst you process your past, present and future.

  4. Feeling empowered that there is a way out

Change and growth is always possible, even if it doesn't feel like it sometimes.

Abi Mohtady, counsellor at Abi's Therapy Room

Hello, I'm Abi

My own therapeutic journey began years ago, and it changed the course of my life. I always knew I wanted to work with people, and that experience shaped my passion for this work. To me, therapy is a safe, confidential space to process your past and present, and to move towards a healthier mind and a more positive future.

  • I have a lovely Cockerdor called Thea. She holds the best qualities of a Labrador and a Cocker Spaniel.
  • I love getting lost in a good fantasy book.
  • My favourite comfort food is red pepper hummus and pitta bread.
  • When I was a child I had a massive fear of buttons. (This has now passed!)

How I work

I'm a humanistic, integrative therapist. That means I don't work from a single fixed model. Instead, I draw on the approach that fits you, your history and what you need from our time together.

  • Attachment-based
  • Gestalt
  • Humanistic
  • Integrative
  • Person-centred
  • Relational
  • Transactional Analysis

Much of my work centres on the unconscious patterns we carry from our earliest relationships, and how they show up in how we see ourselves and connect with others today. I believe change happens in relationship, so building trust, safety and openness with you is the foundation of everything we do together.

What I can help with

Sexual Abuse & Trauma

A confidential, unhurried space to process experiences of sexual abuse/trauma and their lasting effects.

Self-Esteem

Exploring where low self-worth comes from, and building a steadier sense of who you are.

Bereavement

A place to talk about loss, where you can begin to come to terms with losing someone you love, and find a way to keep moving.

Anxiety

Exploring where the sense of unease has stemmed from in your past, and finding a way to regulate yourself so your anxiety doesn't feel so overwhelming.

I work with adults and elders (65+), individually and with couples.

Couples Therapy

I work with couples who are struggling with connection, intimacy, betrayal and some that just feel disconnected within their relationship.

The key work for us to do together is understanding each partner's patterns and the links to the past, begin open communication and collaboratively build safe foundations to build your relationship on. My therapy space is for you to both feel heard and understood without judgment or shame. My aim is to help you strengthen your connection, navigate conflict with compassion, and create a relationship that feels secure, authentic, and alive.

The room

A quiet, private room, warm and unhurried. A comfortable space to bring whatever you need to.

A few common questions

What happens in the first session?

First sessions are about getting to know you a little, seeing what has brought you to therapy and how it is affecting your life. It's also a chance to get to know me a little as well. There's no specific structure to my first sessions; I just want to get to know you better and see how we can move forward together.

How many sessions will I need?

It's different for everyone. Some people find a handful of sessions helpful for a specific issue; others prefer ongoing, longer-term work. We'll keep this under review together.
